Judd Trump’s bid for a third consecutive ranking title remains on track, but he was made to work hard for a 4-3 victory over Noppon Saengkham at the Northern Ireland Open on Thursday.

Trump has been in imperious form this season, winning the English Open and Wuhan Open back-to-back. He arrived in Belfast looking to add a fourth Northern Ireland Open title to his collection, but he faced a stern challenge from Saengkham.

The Thai player took a 3-2 lead, but Trump showed great resilience to level the match and then force a decider. In the deciding frame, Trump produced a break of 92 to secure his 17th consecutive ranking event victory.

Trump will now face Stephen Maguire in the quarter-finals, while Jack Lisowski also booked his place in the last eight with a comfortable 4-1 win over Aaron Hill.

Lisowski has been one of the most consistent players on the snooker tour in recent years, but he has yet to win a ranking title. He will be hoping to change that this week, and he will start as favorite against Ricky Walden in the quarter-finals.
